Teresa Shupe
Encouraged by several of her college dance professors, Teresa began studying Pilates in 1997. She is skilled at using her voice and her hands to guide and invite bodies to move more naturally and freely. Her inspired teaching is continually reinforced by her clients’ achievements and the infectious creativity of her fellow instructors.
Teresa danced professionally for 10 years in the Seattle area before starting her little family in 2003. She earned a BFA ‘92 in Dance from Ohio University where she studied modern dance technique, choreography, anatomy and kineseology. From 1992-2002 she danced with professional modern dance companies in Seattle including Kristina Dillard’s Big Red Dance Co. and The Pat Graney Company. Teresa sat on the board of directors for the Pat Graney Company.
Teresa has been a student of Kung Fu since 1996 and holds the rank of Black-Belt in Kajukenbo. She is currently on the teaching staff at Seven Star Women’s Kung Fu which is one of the oldest and most prestigious women-only martial arts schools in the United States. They are dedicated to empowering women and teaching them self-defense.
Teresa Shupe was trained in Pilates under the supervision of Lori Coleman-Brown and was certified by Romana Kryzanowska in 1998. She spent part of that time training at Drago’s Gym in NYC under the supervision of Romana and Sari.
In 2002 Teresa and her husband traveled to New Zealand so she could teach at Pilates Unlimited, in the Auckland suburb of Takapuna. Teresa participates in the annual continuing professional education for Pilates instructors taught by Romana (or her daughter Sari) and attends the Romana’s Pilates conferences. She has completed these anatomy for the Pilates instructor classes; Anatomy and Kinesiology for the Shoulder, and Lumbo-Pelvic Rhythm taught by Ginny Haley Kanigel, PT and Pilates instructor. As well as Applied Anatomy of the Upper Back and Shoulder Blades taught by Lori Coleman Brown, Director of PSI, PT , Level 2 Pilates instructor.
